With 360-degree Midtown views from its perch atop the Aliz Hotel Times Square, the cocktail lounge Dear Irving on Hudson opened in January. A new outpost of Dear Irving on Irving Place from Yves Jadot Restaurant Group, the bar is situated on the 40th and 41st floors of the hotel and offers views of the Empire State Building, Statue of Liberty, and the George Washington Bridge from full-length windows and terraces. The two floors reflect different design influences, with 1960s-era James Bond on the 40th floor and the Art Deco period on the 41st. Overall, the bar holds about 250 guests: 150 standing on the 40th floor and 100 standing on the 41st floor. Each floor can be sectioned off for smaller events. Bar director Meaghan Dorman created two cocktail menus: Ode to The Empire State features New York-made spirits, while Tried & True offers favorites such as a Gibson martini and a boulevardier. The hotel's ground floor Aliz Room is also available for events; it seats 80 or holds 100 for receptions.

Situated steps away from the Brickell City Centre, SLS LUX Brickell is a luxury hotel and residential building. Two dining options are available on the ground floor for private events: Katsuya, a unique sushi restaurant that seats 180, and S Bar, an urban, bohemian chic lounge that seats 85. Penthouse residents have access to the rooftop level that includes an outdoor lounge area with a pool, a barbecue grill, and views of the Biscayne Bay and the Miami skyline. The 57-floor tower opened June as the third SLS-branded property in Miami.

Union Square Hospitality Group opened its first dedicated event space, Bay Room, in Lower Manhattan. Towering over lower Manhattan on the 60th floor of a Liberty Street skyscraper, the space has sweeping views of New York Harbor from the East to the Hudson rivers, including the Statue of Liberty. The venue seats 520 guests or holds 580 for receptions. Catering is by Union Square Events, and the space's amenities include access to audiovisual equipment, Ketra intelligent lighting, automatic shades on windows, and Wi-Fi.

Following debuts in Tokyo and Dubai, luxury carmaker Lexus has brought its hybrid restaurant, bar, cafe, and gallery space to New York. Intersect by Lexus — NYC, located in a three-story, 16,500-square-foot space, opened in November in the meatpacking district. The sleek space was designed by interior designer Masamichi Katayama of Wonderwall and nods to the brand through features such as a sweeping two-story art installation that incorporates historic Lexus vehicle parts. The space will have programming such as performances, panels, and other special events. For private events, the restaurant's main dining room seats 50 and has a 12-seat private dining room. The cocktail lounge seats 31 or holds 44 standing. The third-floor private gallery, measuring 1,200 square feet, holds 120 for receptions. The Green Room—designated as the personal office of Akio Toyoda, President of Toyota Motor Corp. and Lexus Master Driver—can serve as a V.I.P. space during events. Union Square Hospitality Group operates the food and beverage outlets, and a rotating chef-in-residence program will keep the cuisine fresh. The space officially opened in November.

Winner: I.B.M. Think Gallery Submitted by Drury Design The I.B.M. Think Gallery in Las Vegas in March showcased six of the company’s current projects using 18-foot-high digitally mapped video screens that surrounded visitors and allowed them to sit and think about what they were watching. The videos featured topics such as I.B.M.’s work to cut down on ocean pollution, how the human mind can help prevent disease, how the brand can cut down on gas leaks, and more. More than 15,000 people visited the gallery, which was produced by Drury Design.

The latest incarnation of the Playboy Club debuted in time for New York Fashion Week parties in early September. The space revels in the history of the storied men's magazine and its founder, the late Hugh Hefner. The clubby space's interior is by the design studio Cenk Fikri and uses chesterfield banquettes, red velvet chairs, and wood paneling, as well as makes frequent use of the brand's iconic bunny logo—including in a 600-gallon exotic aquarium. (And yes, the female staff 'bunnies' wear ears and a tail.) For events, the largest space is the Black Box, which holds 600 guests and has amenities including an audio system, intelligent lighting, and a flexible stage. Smaller spaces include the Royal Salute Lounge, which holds 50 guests; the Bunny Lounge for 40 guests; the Grotto Lounge for 30 guests; and the Mansion Lounge for 25 guests.
