(FYI: The animated series follows stepbrothers Phineas Flynn and Ferb Fletcher, who construct a project or embark on an adventure every day of their summer vacation.)
Playing off the show’s signature humor and offbeat charm, attendees could experience a day in the life of Agent P with a top-secret activation hidden in plain sight. Disguised as an ordinary porta-potty, the “Portal-Potty” transported guests into a spy lair, packed with interactive surprises, Easter eggs, and a hidden entrance to the Backyard Bash—a hangout area where fans could enjoy games, giveaways, music, and photo ops including a giant inflatable Agent P and a Love Händel garage band set-up complete with a drum kit and custom guitars.
Kristin Corrigan, senior vice president of marketing strategy and integrated planning at Disney Entertainment Television, explained that the idea for the cheeky activation, which was produced by Mirrored Media, was inspired by one of the show’s longest-running gags: “Agent P’s wildly unpredictable entrances into his spy headquarters. In the series, he’s known for slipping away through the most random objects imaginable, so we wanted to capture that same surprising and hilarious experience in real life.”
During the music fest, Bowling for Soup—the band behind the show’s theme song and who play versions of themselves in the show as the fictional band Love Händel—performed branded sets that included animated cameos, callbacks to fan-favorite episodes, Phineas and Ferb-themed beach balls flying through the air, and the real-life debut of the T-Shirt-inator—a fictional invention from the show—that catapulted Love Händel-branded T-shirts into the crowd.
“Once Bowling for Soup was confirmed for the festival, we knew we had to create something special for their passionate and loyal fans,” Corrigan said. The on-stage Phineas and Ferb theme song takeover included a surprise appearance from evil scientist Dr. Doofenshmirtz (voiced by show co-creator Dan Povenmire), plus 10 superfans also received side-stage access for the entire set.
In addition to tapping into the beloved music from the show, “the family-friendly festival also aligned with the show’s multigenerational audience of Gen Z and millennial fans who grew up with the series, while driving awareness for new, younger viewers,” Corrigan explained.
During Bowling for Soup's upcoming performance at the Vans Warped Tour stop in Long Beach, Calif., July 26-27, fans will also be able to snag gear from T-Shirt-inators and experience more surprises.
