Celebrities are pampered day in and day out, but journalists? Not so much. Deciding to put a new twist on an old trend, Kohler Company invited some 200 consumer and trade media reporters to sip smoothies, receive complimentary spa treatments, and listen to soothing live music on the eve of Chicago’s gigantic Kitchen & Bath Industry Show. “The purpose of the evening was to create a nice and relaxing atmosphere for the media before they had to be on their feet for three days,” said Kohler’s project coordinator, Audra DeSombre, who planned the event.Held in the Kohler store and Ann Sacks showroom in the Windy City’s Merchandise Mart, the event offered a male and female audience mini-manicures, hand peels, shoulder and scalp massages, and a facial stone massage, all provided by technicians from the Kohler Waters Spa in Kohler, Wisconsin. “Bringing in the Kohler spa treatments was a nice tie-in for the brand, and we knew that logistically, the treatments would work well in the space,” DeSombre said.
Running with the healthy living theme, Limelight Catering provided passed hors d’oeuvres and food and beverage stations, including a smoothie station that offered fruit, veggie, and energy variations, and a shooter station that offered chilled spring pea soup shooters. To add to the tranquil ambiance, Bill Pollack Music provided the Club Lounge group of musicians playing the harp, keyboard, laptop with beats, stick (bass and guitar combo), and guitar. Because the musicians were performing electrical instruments, they were able to play in unison, while being located in different areas of the 10,000-square-foot space.
