In late March, Harry Caray's Tavern opened up in a spot befitting its namesake: The restaurant and bar is located right across the street from Wrigley Field. The decor is flush with the signature touches of Harry Caray's Restaurant Group, the same company that operates River North's Harry Caray's Italian Steakhouse. Amidst the mahogany-paneled walls, tiled mosaic floors, and pressed-tin ceiling, displays of baseball memoriablila include everything from vintage newspaper clippings to the foul ball made infamous by Cubs fan Steve Bartman in the 2003 Marlins-Cubs playoff game.
In another nods to America's pastime, the main bar measures a precise 60 feet 6 inches, the distance between the pitcher's mound and home plate. The venue broadcasts games on a whopping 123-inch, flat-panel HD TV, which, according to reps for the restaurant, is the only precision-engineed StarGlass screen in the Midwest. The venue can also arrange a private group tour of Wrigley Field.
On the second floor, the event-friendly Skybox features floor-to-ceiling windows that look out over Wrigley Field. The space, which comes stocked with its own private bar, a separate lounge area, and 16 flat-panel TVs, can accommodate as many as 100 guests for a cocktail reception. Events also take place in three sections on the main floor, which can host cocktail gatherings for groups of appromximately 15 to 24.
In terms of menu options, party packages include omelette, pasta, and carving stations. There's also the Ballpark Buffet and the restauran't signature Holy Cow! Burger Bar, which allows guests to customize sirloin, veggie, and turkey burgers with their choice of toppings and sides.
