Fresh Face: Melissa Fox

What She Does: Fox owns the burgeoning catering company A Casa (212.683.3064). Having learned to cook from her Nicaraguan mother, she specializes in preparing Latin food for small gatherings—under 20 guests, if possible—in intimate settings. But she’s not just a caterer: She brings with her the collection of colorful serving pieces and table linens she’s found in her travels, as well as her own selections of recorded salsa and merengue music.
Her Style: “It’s Latin comfort food presented in a fun manner, but not froofy,” Fox says. “I don’t have sculpted swans made out of radishes; it’s more colorful peppers and organic black beans.”

Her Work: Fox has prepared food for clients like Jane magazine, DreamWorks, Skyy vodka, and Christie's International, as well as a variety of charities and foundations.

Coming Up: Fox is looking for a storefront space with a professional kitchen to make into an event space. “I imagine it like a private supper club, with great food and wine, and an after-dinner entertainment showcase—like a modern-day 1920’s-style salon,” she says.
