Bob Saget played to a full house at the 13th annual Cool Comedy Hot Cuisine benefit—only this time the Olsen twins were nowhere in sight. Dozens of private and corporate sponsors—including American Airlines and Warner Brothers—contributed to the event benefiting the Scleroderma Research Foundation at the Regent Beverly Wilshire in Beverly Hills. The $1 million fund-raiser featured a live auction, from which the two top bidders took home $25,000 trips for 50 friends to Las Vegas.
Kelsey Bray of Little Divas Productions kept the décor simple at the already-opulent hotel. Little Divas developed a red-hot theme for dinner and a performance by the Goo Goo Dolls, which included sultry décor like a sunset stage backdrop. Little Divas covered the tables with rich red linens that were offset by lighted centerpieces covered in broken glass and marbles and crowned with dahlias. Once the night turned to comedic performances by Jon Lovitz, Tim Allen and Robin Williams, the stage set was transformed into a city skyline complemented by evening stars and fog.
Chefs from the Border Grill and Ciudad restaurants catered the benefit with the Regent. Pre-dinner hors d’oeuvres included Caribbean tuna tartare and marinated skirt steak skewers. The four-course sit-down meal consisted of Argentine empanadas, shrimp and crab salpicon with crispy potatoes, roasted chicken with figs, and tres leches with prickly pear and passion fruit puree. Takeaway gifts from sponsors included Chicken Soup for the Soul books, Go Smile toothpaste samples and a Matchstick Men DVD. Each guest also left with a yellow rose and a thank-you note from the foundation.
