Each year, the American Heart Association organizes the Heart Ball to raise money for its research and educational programs. This year, Dr. Eduardo de Marchena, chairman of the Heart Ball Committee, worked with Madeline Ochoa at the association. They came up with a James Bond theme—called "Shaken, Not Stirred"—for this year's fund-raiser held at Parrot Jungle.
The evening began with cocktails and a silent auction. Tables adorned with casino chips and red dice held merchandise up for bid. Silhouettes of playing cards and cardboard cutouts of aces, spades, and diamonds hung on the walls. Songs from the popular Bond spy films—from Goldfinger to The World Is Not Enough—filled the air as guests mingled and played with some of the venue's fauna, including orangutan babies, parrots, and a skunk.
Parrot Jungle catered as well, setting up an hors d'oeuvres table covered with cheese, roasted vegetables, fresh fruit, and sushi rolls in the center of the room.
Dinner and dancing took place in the ballroom. The tables and chairs were dressed in tuxedo-inspired black linens with shimmering metallic accents. Pistils & Petals' centerpieces varied in height from table to table; all featured white hydrangeas and red roses with playing cards tucked among the flowers. Tiny red martini glasses with candles surrounded each centerpiece, casting a soft glow. The dinner menu included cold poached salmon with cucumber dill sauce for starters, a filet mignon with roulade, wild mushroom risotto and.phparagus and zucchini bundle with baby carrots as the main course, and chocolate ganache with mini key lime tart and fresh berries for dessert.
Dance music was provided by Kinetix.
