MPI's Best WEC Post-Parties, Part 2

The WEC trade show may have ended early in the day, but attendees partied well into Monday night, thanks to events hosted by local and out-of-town companies.

February 15, 2006

The Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau (GMCVB) hosted another networking event at the Loews Miami Beach Hotel. A handful of guests began the evening in one suite, enjoying a premium bar and an array of items to nibble on: cubes of cheese and salami, mushrooms, and olives were served in colorful martini glasses arranged in rows on a table. Then guests headed to Emeril's, a few steps away, and dined on their choice of crab cakes, calamari, or shrimp for the appetizer, followed by field greens with a vinaigrette dressing and barbecued salmon with roasted potatoes or tender filet of beef with buttery mashed potatoes. Before leaving, guests received bags of spa goodies from L'Occitane and a CD made for the GMCVB with classic songs from artists including Elton John and Vanessa Williams.

The top sales representatives of the Gaylord Palms Hotel hired All Over Miami to throw a networking event for their clients at Vizcaya Museum and Gardens. The 70 guests enjoyed a brief cocktail reception at the dock across from the Fontainebleau Hilton Hotel before boarding nine cigarette boats that took them to the historic museum. Once at Vizcaya, guests were greeted with champagne and passed hors d'oeuvres. Stiltwalkers and jesters from CircX entertained during cocktails while a Latin solo guitarist played in the background. Guests moved to the restored mansion's indoor courtyard for dinner, a buffet by Mena Catering featuring Latin fare. Panache and Nuage Designs dressed the tables in bright orange and hot pink linens, and Petal Productions provided gerbera daisy centerpieces. After dinner, two couples from Miami salsa school Salsa Lovers performed some hot dance moves and later gave guests an impromptu salsa lesson. When it was time for everyone to head back, they went with gift bags including T-shirts, beach towels, sunglasses, and a personal fan—a great Miami survival kit for those who planned to stay another day or two.

Once the post-parties ended, it was time for BiZBash Media's after-party at Crobar. The party had generated plenty of buzz at the WEC trade show, and guests weren't disappointed. An open bar and music kept many on the dance floor, but the highlight was a performance by Parafernalia Productions. In a haze of fog and red lighting, three "geishas," dressed in red or black corsets with coordinating hot pants, took to the stage for a sultry show. Then guests went back to drinking, dancing, and mingling well into Tuesday morning.
