Mount Sinai Gala Gets Spring Look

Colourful blooms, kiwi linens, and green uplighting created a sense of optimism and renewal for the hospital's annual fund-raiser.

June 7, 2007
The Mount Sinai Hospital Auxiliary Gala exhibited a spring decor motif, with fuchsia blooms from Forget Me Not Flowers displayed prominently in raised silver metal boxes in the reception area of Roy Thomson Hall. These floral decor elements were complemented by round cafe tables covered in kiwi linens and topped by sprays of pink orchid blooms in clear heavy candleholders. Grammy award winning jazz singer Diana Krall headlined the annual benefit, with CTV news anchor Ken Shaw serving as host. The event attracted about 1,500 guests and included a high-roller raffle, featuring his and hers Rolex watches valued at $27,000 and $14,000, respectively.GMB Catering plied arriving guests with zesty kosher appetizers such as fresh Laotian salad rolls with Thai dipping sauce, mini smoked salmon rosettes on cucumber rounds, and wasabi cream smoked duck. After cocktails, event planners with Up and Coming Events steered guests along a tented passage to the outdoor dining tent from Regal Tent Productions. Gold coloured chandeliers provided the main lighting, while green up-lights lit green and white sheer draping material around the perimeter. Tables were covered with alternating kiwi and damask patterned brown and gold coloured linens from Around The Table. Dark brown chiavari chairs and brown linen napkins were the only constant. On each table, tall vases filled with fresh spring blooms on branches were covered in fabric matching the table linens. Assorted flat breads and dips were provided on each table. The main meal consisted of roasted stuffed tomatoes with couscous, Portobello mushrooms, and pine nuts, and Mediterranean chicken with a chiffonade of arugula. A small stage flanked by two large TV screens from Visual FX occupied the centre of the tent.
