Held at the Waldorf-Astoria, as it has been for many years, the Breast Cancer Research Foundation's Hot Pink Party filled the storied hotel's ballroom with its namesake hue. This year the April 30 fund-raiser saw more than 1,200 guests and paid tribute to the organization's founder Evelyn Lauder with the theme, 'My Fair Evelyn's Dream.' As part of this, the planning team and decor consultant Monroe Alechman incorporated the word 'dream' into the evening's design, with gobos illuminating the walls of the dinner space.

HBO's after-party took place at the Pacific Design Center's outdoor space. Real fire was used as a decorative element as 24-foot-long reflecting ponds showcased flaming sculptures. Inside the 120- by 100-foot dining pavilion, guests ate fare provided by Wolfgang Puck, including burrata and peach salad, New York steak, and doughnut bread pudding.

Digital mapping on Notre Dame de la Treille was a show in itself. The mapping displayed everything from large hands appearing to sketch the building to leafy green plants sprouting out of the facade. At the end, the church lit up like a pinball machine in bright colors. Throughout the show, sound effects included church bells, ghostly-sounding choirs, and creaky doors.

The Museum of Science and Industry’s Columbian Ball
Chicago’s Museum of Science and Industry hosted its black-tie gala, the Columbian Ball, on Saturday. The museum was originally built for the famous 1893 World’s Fair, and its history played into the decor. In the dinner tent, Heffernan Morgan Ronsley projected vintage photos of the museum onto cyclone-shaped fabric sculptures.

In 2013, The Phantom of the Opera celebrated its 25th anniversary with a masquerade ball at the New York Public Library. Inside, a projected image of the Phantom mask illuminated drapes. Low lighting in red and blue hues added to the eerie, almost ethereal look.

When another Los Angeles museum opened from the Broad family in 2008, that fete too was inspired by the museum’s unique architecture. Producer Ben Bourgeois was behind the Broad Contemporary Art Museum’s bash, and he said he tried to to create an atmosphere in keeping with the museum’s architecture and artwork. The team brought in a contemporary 22,000-square-foot steel structure for the dinner, covering most of the surfaces within it in white Ultrasuede with 12 cube-shaped light installations, also covered in Ultrasuede, hanging above. The installations—done in the same red tone as the building’s now highly recognizable façade—included bottom panels lit using programmable plasma-screen tiles. (They also changed color throughout the evening.)
