Miami/South Florida’s Top 100 Events 2019

Art Basel’s 17th run in Miami Beach in December clocked in 83,000 visitors, collectors, and art enthusiasts at the newly renovated Miami Beach Convention Center. The center’s redesigned Grand Ballroom allowed the show to host its first large-scale performative installation onsite, Abraham Cruzvillegas’s “Autorreconstrucción: To Insist, to Insist, to Insist…” The free, public installation was adapted specifically for the city, combining elements of sculpture, performance, dance, and music. The show featured 268 galleries from 35 countries, and UBS was lead sponsor. Next: December 5-8, 2019

Art & Design Events

For the first time, Ultra Music Festival will take place on Virginia Key, Key Biscayne. The controversial move has uprooted it from its previous home at Bayfront Park, which has hosted the EDM celebration since 2001. Despite the move, top talent headlining sets abound: Adam Meyer, The Chainsmokers, Alesso, Dog Blood, and more are slated to appear. Ultra is the marquee event of Miami Music Week. Now in its 18th year, the festival stayed fresh with new events such as the Taste of Puerto Rico with José Andrés; Mixing it Up on the River: Best Bars, Bites & Beats with Travel Channel’s Adam Richman; Wine & Cheese Happy Hour with Martha Stewart; and Sunset Stone Crab with Emeril Lagasse. The festival raises money for the Chaplin School of Hospitality & Tourism Management at Florida International University. Next: February 2020

Billed as the largest swimwear trade show in the world, SwimShow draws more than 3,000 global buyers and 2,500 labels in women’s, men’s, and children’s swimwear, resort wear, athleisure, and accessories to the Miami Beach Convention Center. It is the cornerstone of the informal Miami Swim Week and this year will bring back the Collection, a curated, interactive experience highlighting select brands. Next: July 13-16, 2019
