The Morgans Hotel Group-also responsible for SoBe's Delano and Shore Club-debuted its newest property, the Mondrian South Beach Hotel in December, just in time for a sold-out year-end celebration. Among its many amenities, the Biscayne Bay locale (a sequel to its Los Angeles original) boasts minimalist-motif restaurant Asia de Cuba and sprawling pool deck the Sunset Lounge, which offered a new celebratory space for those looking to escape the crowds and stubborn doormen along South Beach's more publicized venues on New Year's Eve.

Inside, guests who purchased the all-inclusive $350 ticket began their evening at Asia de Cuba, located off the hotel's lobby. The family-style meal included dishes such as five-spice seared foie gras and osestra caviar to start, as well as entrees like coconut mustard seed sustainable Chilean sea bass and Wagyu beef strip steak. Following the meal, diners joined the hotel's other partygoers and guests at the lobby bar and outdoor Sunset Lounge.

In addition to several plush lounge areas and grass-lined private cabanas flanking the pool, the event's main space featured a 20-piece orchestra that served as the evening's entertainment-a sharp contrast to the hip hop and dance beats heard just east of the hotel on Washington and Collins Avenue-serenading the over-30 set with classic and contemporary scores.

At midnight a fireworks display marked the start of 2009, as the sold-out crowd of 1,000 guests continued to party well into the New Year.
