Fragrance Awards Bathed in Pink, Peach and Perfume

June 15, 2004
On a scorching 95-degree day, it was a wonder all the Fragrance Foundation's guests still arrived on the red carpet at the Hammerstein Ballroom looking—and smelling—fresh for the 32nd annual Fifi awards. Dalzell Productions produced the event for the foundation and its president Rochelle Bloom.
Guests entered the perfume-scented venue through an archway of fabric lit in pink and peach, the colors used by designer David Beahm of David Beahm Designs throughout the affair. In the foyer, Beahm created a rectangular floral sculpture of peach carnations accented with red calla lilies that sat atop a modern metal pedestal. A similar arrangement stood in the cocktail area upstairs.

In the main ballroom—which this year served as the venue for dinner as well as the awards presentation, unlike previous years, when the foundation used two separate spaces—two giant video screens flanked a brightly colored tensile fabric structure by Pink Inc. that crept up the front wall and across the ceiling over guests' heads. Pink and orange gerbera daisies made bright centerpieces on each dining table, and table linens alternated between fuchsia and orange from table to table. Adjacent to each guest's clear dinner plate, flatware sat atop colorful, patterned napkins that hung off the side of the table for a unique look. Great Performances' dinner menu included chilled green pea soup, halibut with citrus segments and wasabi mashed potatoes, and a creme brulee trio and chocolate cake for dessert.

Scharff Weisberg coordinated the audiovisual production for the presentation of the awards, which were hosted by Sigourney Weaver. The foundation inducted Oscar de la Renta into its hall of fame and Polo Ralph Lauren into its fragrance hall of fame.
