The former Indian-accented Tantra Lounge received a total makeover and reopened April 2 as Stir Lounge, an 1,800-square-foot venue with a massive sound system and extensive lighting effects. Located in Penn Quarter on the ground level of Indebleu restaurant, the club's interior is designed by Washington-based John Giesecke Design Studio.
Essentially one large room, Stir has a bar along one wall and a low, 80-foot-long black leather banquette on the opposite wall, with floor surfaces of reflective vinyl. Walls are gray and white with the occasional accent of animal print wallpaper. In front of the seating areas, there are 14 (movable) uplit acrylic tables with recessed areas for an ice bucket. A dance platform behind the banquette is embedded with 50 colored lights. Also in the audiovisual department: the lounge has seven rotating ceiling LED lights, a DJ booth, and smoke machine.
Steps from the Verizon Center and Chinatown, Stir is available for full buyouts and can accommodate 250. Catering for corporate events is provided by Indebleu.
