Last night, the Smithsonian Young Benefactors hosted a 19th birthday party at the City Club of Washington at Franklin Square for some 200 of the 1,000-member group. At the party, the organization—an arm of the Smithsonian Associates educational division, targeting professionals from age 20 to 45—promoted its fall programs.
"We want members to realize they are part of a cultural organization, beyond the networking," said Young Benefactors director Katharine Reishman. New branding for the group's education-oriented charity Culture4Kids decorated the entrance, while staffers handed out information on upcoming events such as the second annual Smithsonian Young Benefactors Cup, scheduled for September 6 on the National Mall. The City Club provided food stations with artichoke and goat cheese quiche and assorted pot stickers, while Georgetown Cupcake covered a center table with confections from red velvet with cream-cheese frosting to coconut flake and chocolate cupcakes, all topped with birthday-appropriate, miniature candles.
