If your decor theme cries out for a fireplace, but the venue you've rented doesn't have one, Ecosmart Fire could solve the problem. Australia-based Ecosmart manufactures a line of environmentally friendly fireplaces that two people can carry—and they're simple to operate. For fuel, they use denatured alcohol, which turns into odourless carbon dioxide and water when burned. Introduced to Canada in March 2005, these ingenious devices do not require external venting, making them easy to incorporate into decor plans. There are eight styles available, including one made with clear glass and another resembling an igloo. The cost for the igloo is $6,800. Ecosmart products are sold by independent fireplace retailers such as Company B Inc., which also carries the fuel.—Robyn Small
