* INCOMING *

1. CUPCAKES TO GO: Could this be the next cupcake trend at events? The Washington outpost of Sprinkles bakery has unveiled a "cupcake A.T.M." that dispenses the treats 24 hours a day, following the successful model of a Sprinkles in Beverly Hills. Other locations are planned for New York, Chicago, and Houston. The Washington Post: "Resembling an ATM, the machine features a touchscreen that allows customers to scroll through a menu of cupcake flavors. Once a selection is made and paid for by credit card, a robotic arm grabs the pastry from a shelf. The cupcake, neatly boxed up, is then dispensed through a turnstile." http://wapo.st/LHBmvM

2. REMEMBERING NORA EPHRON: The New York Times on the writer and filmmaker's memorial service at Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center: "Ms. Ephron had planned the memorial herself, filing the plans in a folder marked 'exit.' The program turned out to be poignant at times and uproarious at times, and there were frequent food references. … [Attendees] chatted in the lobby before the doors opened and sipped Champagne or water with lemon afterward. 'Nobody knows whether to treat it as a cocktail party or not,' the journalist Lynn Sherr said before the memorial began, 'and Nora would have liked that.'" http://nyti.ms/LYMHu1

3. OLYMPIC GOLD: The Olympics are big business—but mostly for sponsors, not the athletes. American middle-distance runner Nick Symmonds is taking on the system by signing his own sponsors in an unusual way: auctioning off a patch of his skin on eBay. AdWeek: "Now more athletes are speaking out, especially on Symmonds’ Facebook page, railing against the dominance of big business and what he calls 'crippled and antiquated' rules limiting advertising that can be worn or shown during competition, which limits an individual’s earnings. Ultimately, he’s speaking for many competitors when he asks the fundamental question: Who is allowed to make money off the Olympics?" http://bit.ly/MVkTID

4. HEART ATTACK ON A PLATE: We may have gained five pounds just reading about this lawsuit over some seriously unhealthy food. Associated Press: "The Second Avenue Deli won a court fight with a Las Vegas-based burger joint Friday over the names of their gut-busting foods. The New York deli's sandwich called "instant heart attack" is made of sliced pastrami and fried potato latkes. It costs $24.95. The Heart Attack Grill in Vegas had ordered the deli to stop serving the fare on trademark infringement grounds. The deli took the grill to court, and a federal judge in New York sided with the deli." http://bit.ly/N54T5f

5. MONUMENTAL MESS: The Washington Monument may remain closed until 2014 as the National Park Service continues to oversee repairs caused by last summer's earthquake. The site sees about 600,000 visitors a year. The Washington Post: "The estimated $15 million project could require the temporary removal of part of the granite plaza surrounding the monument and involve construction of an access road on the south side of its grounds. Robert A. Vogel, superintendent of the Park Service’s National Mall and Memorial Parks, said the project also may require the temporary removal of some of the plaza’s flagpoles and benches." http://wapo.st/PB4tFC
