1. TED MOVES CONFERENCE: The California gathering that draws big names for its 18-minute talks will move to Vancouver for its 30th-anniversary conference next year. TEDActive, a parallel event, will meet at Whistler. Both conferences will take place March 17 to 21, 2014. Press release: "The [Vancouver Convention Centre] allows for creative versatility and a bold rethinking of the conference experience: at its heart is a large, unbroken 55-foot-high space where TED's stage and venue designers are dreaming up something brand-new—a custom theater designed to maximize the impact of talks, permitting multiple configurations for sitting, listening, and connecting with audience members, speakers, and performers."

2. GRAMMY WARDROBE WARNING: CBS sent a "wardrobe advisory" to performers and audience members attending the award show Sunday. Citing network standards and practices, the email advises to "avoid exposing bare fleshy under curves of the buttocks and buttock crack. Bare sides or under curvature of the breasts is also problematic." Foreign language, obscenity, and name brands are also against the rules, as are lapel pins that promote causes. 3. BARBIE SELLS THE DREAMHOUSE: The doll is selling her iconic Malibu mansion in a marketing campaign leading up to the introduction of a new home playset. New York Times: "Four designers are forming a dream team, in Mattel’s parlance, to advise Barbie in her hunt for a new home. They are Jonathan Adler, who brought the Malibu playset to life in 2009 as part of a commemoration of Barbie’s 50th anniversary; Lulu de Kwiatkowski; Celerie Kemble; and Trina Turk. … The campaign will also include so-called experiential marketing in the form of 'Barbie the Dreamhouse Experience'—a touring exhibition, in a partnership between Mattel and EMS Entertainment—that is to begin this year in two markets, Berlin and Sunrise, Fla." http://nyti.ms/VFwqLU

4. JUDGING ATTENDEES: One measure of the value of a trade show or event is a metric called Return on Customer. Event Quest: "Considering the time, effort, and financial resources spent on developing and producing an event, it is surprising that more time is not spent answering the question, 'what we do with who we meet?' In other words—are we being effective with our newly gained data to produce a positive Return On Customer?" http://bit.ly/14UzbzI

5. STARWOOD'S NEW BRANDS: Starwood Capital Group today announced the launch timeline for two new hotel brands, the luxury brand Baccarat Hotels & Resorts and the lifestyle eco-brand 1 Hotels & Resorts, with five hotel openings scheduled under the group’s hotel brand management company, SH Group.
