December 2, 2016: Victoria's Secret Fashion Show in Paris Offers Flashy Spectacle, CBS to Broadcast N.F.L. Games on Web Platform, Art Basel Embraces Virtual Reality

1. VICTORIA'S SECRET FASHION SHOW IN PARIS OFFERS FLASHY SPECTACLE: The Victoria's Secret Fashion Show took place in Paris for the first time on Wednesday, bringing its usual celebrity-filled spectacle to the Grand Palais. The event will be broadcast on CBS Monday. The New York Times: "The 45-minute runway show featured 51 models in 82 looks, with a roster that included Kendall Jenner, Adriana Lima, Irina Shayk, Joan Smalls, Alessandra Ambrosio and the sisters Gigi and Bella Hadid, as well as a number of fast-rising new faces, such as the Houston native Jourdana Phillips and the Iowan Alanna Arrington. A series called Mountain Romance featured floral numbers, crystal thistle wings and an outfit, worn by Lily Donaldson, set with more than 2,500 stones. Live performances by Lady Gaga, Bruno Mars—grooving along in a fur coat and shades—and the Weeknd kept the energy running as the models shook their tail feathers, and 43 pairs of wings, for the cameras. … Eighteen months in the making, the event took two weeks to set up and involved equipment transported in 45 trucks, armed soldiers, barricades, multiple checkpoints, photo IDs for all, bomb-sniffing dogs and a plainclothes detail. The usually frigid Grand Palais was heated. Mr. Razek said it was the most expensive fashion show ever, an investment in excess of $20 million. It will also most likely smash records in viewership: Once the show is broadcast on Monday at 10 p.m. Eastern time on CBS, is posted on Victoria’s Secret website the next day and enters worldwide distribution, its global audience is expected to hit 800 million viewers in more than 190 countries. That outstrips the Super Bowl many times over." http://nyti.ms/2gNy54y

2. CBS TO BROADCAST N.F.L. GAMES ON WEB PLATFORM: CBS has scored rights to stream N.F.L. games on its online streaming service CBS All Access. Bloomberg: "The multiyear deal with the NFL begins Sunday and will include all CBS coverage of regular, preseason and post-season games, the network said Thursday in a statement. All Access subscribers will see the same NFL games that CBS is broadcasting in their local markets on traditional TV. While NFL viewership has declined this year, football remains the most popular programming on TV. Last week, NFL games were the most-watched on both broadcast and cable television, according to Nielsen data. AT&T Inc., which offers the NFL Sunday Ticket package to its DirecTV customers, is working to obtain online rights to those games as well, company executives said this week. CBS All Access is the network’s online streaming service, providing web-based access to the company’s programming for $6 to $10 a month. Viewers will be able to access programming on the CBS app and using connected devices such as Roku players and Apple TV." http://bloom.bg/2gr31cx

3. ART BASEL EMBRACES VIRTUAL REALITY: Art Basel, which runs through Sunday in Miami, showcased a unique virtual-reality experience from Artsy, an art-collecting resource site. Page Six: “The event for the leading website for art gave guests a shared virtual reality experience projected on the inside of the Faena Art geodesic dome, powered by 360° projection, motion tracking, and avatar puppeteering with a performance by alt-R&B singer and producer ABRA. Elena Soboleva, Artsy’s Curator of Special Projects, said of the show put on with Gucci, titled ‘Collective Reality’, ‘Virtual reality is a lonely experience because of the headset. We worked with artists including Rachel Rossin to create a shared, immersive experience to bring together the worlds of art, music and technology.’ One guest told her, ‘We’ve seen everything at Art Basel, artwork set on fire, a Terry Richardson party where everyone had to come naked, but this is by far the best thing I’ve seen.’” http://pge.sx/2gqSKx2
