1. LIVE NATION DEBUTS LATIN DIVISION: Live Nation has launched a Latin division in an effort to increase the company’s presence in the Latin live events market in the U.S. Billboard: “Live Nation Entertainment has announced Live Nation Latin, a newly formed department of the company the will be headed by Hans Schafer, who formerly was the director of AEG’s Latin Talent division. Schafer will be based out of Beverly Hills. Live Nation Latin will ‘focus on increasing the company’s presence in the growing Latin live events market in the United States, including touring, festivals, and artist development,’ according to statement from the entertainment giant. Although Live Nation has had a powerful presence in the Latin touring market for some time, the creation of Live Nation Latin marks the first time the company is forming an official touring division dedicated to the genre. Live Nation Latin ‘will amplify Live Nation’s touring expertise across the Latin genre,’ according to the company's announcement, which comes on the eve of the Latin Grammys (taking place Nov. 16 in Las Vegas) and in the wake of the runaway success of the song ‘Despacito.’” http://bit.ly/2zHJDiZ
2. MODELS DENIED ENTRY TO CHINA FOR VICTORIA'S SECRET FASHION SHOW: Several models have been denied entry into Shanghai to walk the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show. Fashionista: "Four models have reportedly been denied the requisite Chinese visas, according to online fan accounts: Julia Belyakova, Kate Grigorieva and Irina Sharipova from Russia, as well as Dasha Khlystun from Ukraine. Instagram user @VSModelSpain posted a screenshot of a conversation with Khylstun to their Stories in which the model confirms that she will not be walking. It is not immediately clear why China would deny the visas for the Russian and Ukrainian models; as recently as July, relations between China and Russia were reportedly at their "best time in history," according to one Chinese news agency. In October, a 14-year-old model died after collapsing at a fashion show at Shanghai Fashion Week. Russian authorities are currently investigating her death. There are rumors that other models are reportedly affected by the visa issue, and many outraged Chinese fans are calling for model Gigi Hadid to be denied a visa for a 'racist' video she posted to social media earlier in 2017." http://bit.ly/2zGhiMe
3. U.N. URGES COUNTRIES TO OBSERVE TRUCE FOR UPCOMING OLYMPICS: The U.N. General Assembly is advocating for a global truce during the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea, after approving a resolution on Monday. Associated Press: “The resolution, adopted with a bang of the gavel by Assembly President Miroslav Lajcak to loud applause, urges U.N. member states to observe the truce from seven days before the games begin on Feb. 9 until seven days after the Paralympic Winter Games end on March 18. Thomas Bach, president of the International Olympic Committee, told the 193-member world body that with the resolution the General Assembly is ‘creating the conditions for all athletes to compete in peace.’ ‘Only the U.N. member states can guarantee the athletes the safe passage to the Olympic Games,’ he said. ‘They make it possible for all the Olympic athletes to realize their dream of a lifetime.’ Lee Hee Beom, president of the South Korean organizing committee, said the resolution signifies the General Assembly’s ‘strong wish that Pyeongchang will provide the window of opportunity to foster an environment conducive to building and sustaining peace on the Korean peninsula, and in northeast Asia.’ He recalled the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, Australia, where delegations from both Koreas walked into the opening ceremony ‘marching together, hand in hand under the same flag.’ It simply said ‘Korea.’” http://bit.ly/2jstjyL
