The conclusion of principal photography on Touchstone Pictures and Jerry Bruckheimer Films' upcoming thriller Deja Vu was especially poignant, since the film was the first to begin production in New Orleans post-Hurricane Katrina. So when the film's unit publicist, Claire Raskind, tapped Moondance Events & Entertainment to produce the wrap party at the Ivar in Hollywood, Moondance co-owners Benita Karroll and Wendi Mirabella wanted to make sure the party's atmosphere reflected the urban grit of the film as well as its rich location. "It's not just urban, but New Orleans urban," Mirabella said of the club's transformation.Karroll and Mirabella brought in three- and four-level scaffolding, which held monitors showing production stills, scenes from the film, and excerpts from the script. In a nod to the element of time travel in the movie, Moondance wrapped clear plastic around each piece of scaffolding, and bathed the space in red and blue lights exaggerated with a hazer. "It makes you feel a little out of touch, like nothing is as it seems," said Mirabella. "And New Orleans is building itself back up, so the scaffolding sort of represents that." Four dancers decked out in fringed two-piece outfits were interspersed among the scaffolding and atop a balcony, adding a French Quarter feel.
In what is normally empty bar space, couches and cocktail tables created additional intimate lounge space. Above the bar, two large screens showed more scenes from the movie, and below the bar, colorful letters made to look like kitchen magnets used in one of the movie's pivotal scenes spelled out "U CAN SAVE HER."
The party's 350 cast and crew members dined on a buffet of American comfort food including roasted vegetables, potatoes au gratin, filet of salmon with mustard sauce, and New York strip steak, while DJ Samantha Ronson spun her signature mix of new and old music.
