The Chicago Children's Museum, currently located at tourist hotspot Navy Pier, is one step closer to a new home at Grant Park. As reported by The Chicago Tribune, a city council zoning committee ruled in favor of the move yesterday, which would build a new $100 million museum at the north edge of the park.
In a surprisingly heated debate, the committee, which is backed by Mayor Richard Daley, overrode the oppositions of Alderman Brendan Reilly (whose district includes the proposed building site), as well as a throng of protesters, many wearing "Save Grant Park" T-shirts. While the vote took place, lawyers for the museum's opponents filed a lawsuit seeking to overturn the Daley-appointed Chicago Plan Commission's recommendation to build in Grant Park. The final vote will be made by the full city council on Wednesday.
