* INCOMING *

1. SOCIAL STAKES:
In a survey conducted by the Luxury Interactive unit of Worldwide Business Research found that of about 60 luxury brands—including Barneys New York, Cartier, Chopard, and Louis Vuitton—78 percent of marketing executives upped their social media dollars spend this year and plan to do so again for 2013. WWD: http://wwd.us/R6ijwS

2. TASTING CONCERNS: The New York Times takes a look at the restaurant trend of all-or-nothing tasting menus. An option that until recently was only offered at a few restaurants across the country, is now becoming a more frequent offering that is difficult to serve gracefully. The New York Times: http://nyti.ms/VOIWMU

3. DIGITAL RETAIL SCORES: Advertising and technology firm SapientNitro released its Insights 2013, a study that rates how well retail brands use digital signage and interactive elements in-store. Per the study, Bloomingdale's and Sephora scored high, while brands like Gap and Victoria's Secret scored low. Hilding Anderson, director of research and insights at SapientNitro: "[O]nly 22 percent of those stores were interactive, where you had a value-add beyond just merchandising or a display. That's a huge [missed] opportunity....It's just a reality that retailers are leaving a lot of [money] on the table today." AdWeek: http://bit.ly/SPoAfv

4. Q.R. CODE REQUIRED: Marketers might think Q.R. codes are on their way out, but the New York City Council doesn't. The council approved a bill that requires city agencies to provide a Q.R. code that links to any online inspection, permit, license, or registration information. Andrew Moesel, a spokesman for the New York State Restaurant Association: “I don’t know that [the new law] will have an impact in the short term,” Moesel said. “But it should at least encourage the Board of Health to pay more attention to accurately updating their websites. We’re all for transparency.” Washington Square News: http://bit.ly/T0NJEL

5. GREEN AWARDS: The U.S. Green Building Council announced the recipients of the 2012 Leadership Awards, which will be presented at the November 15 Greenbuild International Conferences and Expo in San Francisco. Press release: http://bit.ly/Rw5wER
