Old School Square Cultural Arts Center in Delray Beach provided an intimate and historic backdrop for the second 2005 BiZBashFla Creative Environment FunShop. Unique Productions transformed Old School Square's gymnasium into an African jungle, complete with mosquito netting, exotic animals, and jungle sounds.
Derwin Jones, Unique's event planner and coordinator, worked with Welcome Florida's Louis Dreyer to create a mosquito net canopy made from beige tulle suspended from the gym's wooden beams and enhanced with strands of sparking lights. Unique also hung burlap and sheets of bamboo matting from suspension posts and the gym's balcony. Temporary Tropics filled the room with 12 varieties of palms, shrubs, and bromeliads. One wall was lined with areca and foxtail palms, some 14 feet tall. Panache dressed tables of various shapes with leopard-print and leaf-patterned linens. Sculptured Ice Occasions provided a sculpture of a leopard perched on top of BiZBash's logo, displayed on a banquet table in the center of the room. The piece sat atop palm leaves provided by Canvas Nursery.
The lush setting capped a day of networking and seminars. The general session was led by motivational speaker Simon T. Bailey, whose presentation, "Releasing Your Brilliance," focused on using creative techniques and action plans to break nonproductive work patterns. The breakout sessions included Matthew D. Gonzalez, president of G Solutions Inc., who spoke about navigating the municipal permit process and working out legal details related to event planning. Broward-based event planner Phyllis Cambria, co-author of The Complete Idiot's Guide to Throwing a Great Party, shared insights about effective and groundbreaking marketing strategies.
