Groundbreaking events are nothing new to South Florida—especially during the current boom in new construction. This one for Trump Hollywood, however, was refreshingly different: John Rossetti of 2Taste Catering developed a "construction chic" theme to celebrate the luxury condo going up in Hollywood Beach, a landmark partnership between the Related Group's Jorge Perez and Donald Trump.Arriving guests were greeted by models sporting construction gear—cutoff jeans, boots, tool belts, and hard hats—as they passed under a crystal chandelier hung from trussing on their way to the $2 million Trump Hollywood Sales Center. The guests were then led to the site for the ceremonial groundbreaking, during which they were treated to beer and champagne served from a construction truck filled with ice. After digging their shovels into the ground, Trump and Perez made their indelible "signature" with handprints and autographs on concrete cornerstones.
Inspired by a construction zone, the after-party outside featured raised food stations and bars decorated with yellow "caution" tape, toolboxes, and assorted floral arrangements with screwdrivers and nails added for effect. Attendees noshed on "lunch truck" bites such as mini burgers and Belgian fries served in paper cones. Inside the sales pavilion, the fare was somewhat more exotic, with a ceviche station displayed on a multitiered ice sculpture, a sushi station, and a variety of meat, cheese, and fruit platters.
