Wishes were granted on April 4, when the Hilton Fort Lauderdale Beach Resort, Sailor Jerry Spiced Rum, and Premier Beverage hosted the Spring Fling and Flower Fashion Show to benefit the Make-a-Wish Foundation. The resort's pool area, decorated with billowing purple, green, and pink fabrics, served as the runway.
As guests waited in anticipation for the show, they were served hors d'oeuvres provided by the hotel, such as cherry tomatoes with mozzarella and a delicate pea soup, served chilled. While enjoying cocktails around the pool, attendees also sampled assorted cheeses, meats, and grilled vegetables. The fashion show, accompanied by steel-drum music from Steel Away Band, wasn't your typical runway experience, as all the gowns modeled were made completely of flowers and designed by local florists.
Throughout the night, guests were encouraged to participate in a silent auction, where lots included a $1,000 gift certificate for an in-home decorating consultation from Interior Decor Homeworks and a wine-tasting party for as many as 12 guests courtesy of PRP Wines.
All proceeds from the event went to the Make-a-Wish Foundation of Southern Florida, an organization that grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions. In fact, one child's wish to be a model was granted that night as she took her turn on the runway, closing the show.
