When Mansion nightclub opened its doors to the public Thursday night, guests stepped into not just a premier club, but also a premier party for the newest release from Paramount Pictures, Tropic Thunder. The Opium Group completely transformed the venue into a jungle battleground.
"We wanted to feature elements to reflect the movie concept while at the same time conceptualizing what would appeal (to partygoers) in a nightclub scenario," explained Diana Pavlov, director of events for the Opium Group.
Ferns and vines were draped from the ceiling and chandeliers, tall palm trees were placed on the venue's large speakers to tower over the space, and exotic plants were placed on the center islands of the two bars. Even the staff got involved as bartenders were dressed in army fatigues and bandanas with camouflage face paint.
Throughout the night clips of the film were displayed on all six of the club's projection screens within the main room, including two four- by six- foot drop-downs over the main dance floor. Periodic confetti explosions with bright lighting coincided with the images on the screens amplifying the movie experience for eventgoers.
This event was the second official movie release party that Mansion has held in the past month-the Dark Knight premiere party was on July 18.
"We've tried to pick the movies that have the most hype and are ones we can get creative with, whether its through production, a cast member hosting, or a hot DJ we can tie into the concept," said Pavlov.
This burgeoning trend has been well received by the public as by the time doors opened at 11 p.m. for both events, the line to get in was well down the street and once inside the partygoers stayed until the wee hours of the morning.
