Coal-Walking Eventgoers Get Burned

Walking on hot coals is a classic activity for an emloyee motivational meeting. Everybody's supposed to break through their fears and bond. But about a dozen Burger King employees got burned at their meeting in Key Largo last week, according to an Associated Press report in The New York Times. About a dozen hot-footed attendees suffered first and second-degree burns, and one woman spent a day in the hospital. Burger King's Dana Frydman, the vice president who helped organize the event, said she had no regrets, and told the AP, "It made you feel a sense of empowerment and that you can accomplish anything." Except walk, that is. Some workers used wheelchairs when they went to the airport to leave the retreat.
