Social Set Gives Entertaining Tips

New York's social set shed some light on how they throw a successful dinner party—from the seating arrangements to the entertainment—in this week's New York magazine. Typical tips included nods to vendors, with socialite Debbie Bancroft enlisting Robbins Wolfe Eventeurs to serve rare tuna Oriental salad, chicken curry and banana-chocolate-chip bread pudding to guests like Mort Zuckerman. Tina Brown, who gets poor marks for her hostess skills, favors Food in Motion. And, Ilene Rosenzweig—Cynthia Rowley's partner at home decor line Swell—shares ideas for strange themes like "violent food—black-eyed peas, Bloody Marys, artichokes and broken ribs." She also once arranged for a Mister Softee truck to provide dessert outside her Flatiron loft.
