ACTIVITY: Break the Code

To go along with all frenzy associated with The DaVinci Code—which opens on Friday—there’s now an activity inspired by the book and film. Paint the Town Red sends participants to out of the ordinary locations around town on a quest for clues to a succession of riddles. Groups are supplied with a variety of tools, including maps, compasses, and black lights. After solving the entire string of challenges, they form a password by arranging letters derived from each mission. The final clue lies with a cryptex—a secret device like that in the book, which has rotating parts that must be put into a particular order to unlock. The hunt typically runs between 90 minutes and two hours. —Mark Mavrigian
