A routine annual inspection to Chelsea Piers revealed some isolated damage to the northern tip of Pier 61. As a precaution—and to allow engineers to carry out repairs safely—officials have closed the West Rink (at the Sky Rink), the Lighthouse, and the Sunset Terrace. A spokesperson for the Hudson River sports facility told us that, despite some reports, the East Rink of Sky Rink was not affected and its closure over the Labor Day weekend is not due to the damage.
On Tuesday, September 2, Chelsea Piers will post on its Web site updates regarding the repair work and when the venues will reopen.
