In a sea of standard booths and sales pitches during Meeting World 2002 at the Hilton New York, resort chain Vail Resorts/Rock Resorts lured attendees in with an off-the-wall approach. Outgoing and upbeat caricaturist Garrett Bender set up shop—himself and an easel—on the edge of the company's booth and tempted passersby to get a drawing done of themselves. Once an attendee was seated, company reps talked up their resorts while Bender worked on the caricature—effectively keeping the potential customer at the booth for the whole sales pitch.
