A slice of New York came to Toronto on Tuesday, when the tourism organization NYC & Company celebrated the opening of its first office in Canada. Marsha Mowers and Loren Maisels of Vision/Co., the PR company representing the Toronto office, worked to create a relaxed party at the downtown lounge Cheval, with touches of New York in the event details.
"We chose Cheval because it's a higher-end venue, and it's a bit hidden. There's a great opportunity to create a funky vibe," Maisels said.A yellow New York City taxi sat outside the King Street West venue, and magenta and blue LED lights reflected the company logo on the exterior brick wall. The coloured lights continued inside the dimly lit bar, where three plasma TVs flashed images of city scenes and attractions with the tagline "This is New York City." Servers behind the long marble bar wore New York Giants hats, a nod to Sunday's Super Bowl victory. The New York theme continued with finger foods such as mini pastrami sandwiches, bagels with cream cheese and lox, oysters Rockefeller, and mini cherry cheesecake tarts served alongside cosmopolitans.
Gift bags with hats and Marc Jacobs key chains were given to the approximately 200 guests from the media, travel, and trade industries as they left the event. Vision/Co. will hold another party for the new office at Suco Lounge in Montreal.
