An 11-week celebration of Japanese design kicks off on Saturday at Felissimo Design House. The exhibition, called Japan©, covers a lot of ground, with more than 70 Japanese firms and designers represented in the areas of fashion, home, food, stationery, beauty, and pop culture. The curated collection of products includes dishes, tinwork, fabrics, jewelry, handbags, furniture, art supplies, toys, and kitchenware.
Not only are the various objects out on display, but Felissimo has organized a series of speakers, designers and industry leaders who will talk about the influence of Japanese design. Focus will shift each week to another topic and its representative goods. During the first week, modern interpretations of traditional items—from kimonos to pottery—will be highlighted. During the final week, Taste of Japan, new and traditional food trends, will be presented. The showcase is open to the public, free of charge, through November 1. A select number of items will be available for sale.
