Opening in a couple of weeks is the first New York outpost of Lucky Strike Lanes, a popular chain of bowling alley and entertainment venues that originated in Hollywood. Owned by Steven and Gillian Foster and Kevin Troy, this 36,000-square-foot site in Midtown will offer rooms for private parties and events in addition to its public amenities.
Designed with an eye to the old-school bowling alleys of the 1920s and '30s, this spot also features modern technology and furnishings like video displays over the lanes, plasma TVs throughout, and a surround sound system. Aside from the 26 lanes, there are also billiard tables, a full-service bar and kitchen, and space to house DJs. The comfort food menu from executive chef Bill Starbuck includes items like mini burgers, tomato and cheese s'mores, and mac and cheese bites.
For private meetings, events, teambuilding, and business entertaining, Lucky Strike offers the Luxe lounge. This section of the venue has four lanes, its own bar, and comfy seating. Stretching across the lanes is a 22- by 12-foot high-definition video projection screen for movie screenings, presentations, and even 3-D film shorts. (The venue will provide the 3-D glasses.) Maximum capacity of the Luxe lounge is 200 people.
Other areas for groups include the two-lane suites in the main area, which each come with a billiard table and room for 50 people. Lucky Strike Lanes is available for buyouts; the entire space holds 700. Lucky Strike is also planning to open a location at the Meadowlands in New Jersey next year.
