Fashion Week kicked into high gear on Friday, and topping the list of crowded affairs was the ever-popular Baby Phat party. After the presentation at the Roseland Ballroom, Kimora Lee Simmons and crew headed down to a new nightclub on West 27th Street. Barely through its first week of soft-opening events, the nightlife addition Suzie Wong was jammed with revelers from 10 p.m. long into the night.
Toning down the club's all-red, Asian-themed decor (inspired by the venue's namesake), event designer Ed Libby redressed columns and overhead lamp shades with silky green and purple fabric, and topped them with sprays of white lilies. Similarly, Libby draped the venue's banquettes with sheets of the same material and created small lily arrangements for the low tables.Bartenders in Chinese-style jackets served drinks like the "Kimora-tini," made with muddled Asian pears, Bocaj vodka, plum sake, and fresh lemon. And to add a Baby Phat-appropriate naughty element, nearly naked dancers writhed on platforms behind beaded curtains.
Also on Friday, other new and exclusive venues packed in the fashion crowd: Erin Fetherston held court at Rose Bar at the Gramercy Park Hotel after her show in the tents, former Project Runway contestant Victorya Hong packed the Altman Building for her show, and Carlos Campos followed his fall 2008 collection showing with a postparty at new West Village spot Le Royale.
