President Clinton hosted a cocktail party at the Metropolitan Museum of Art for leaders in town for the U.N. Millennium Summit. Chris Giftos, the Met's manager of special events, told us the museum closed all day for preparations for the event. In the Great Hall, military personnel set up flags from the represented countries, and a huge canopy from Starr Tents covered the museum's entrance and a stretch of Fifth Avenue to shelter the diplomats' motorcades.
Once inside, guests had cocktails in the Arms and Armor gallery, where they met President Clinton, and then proceeded to the Temple of Dendur, where Giftos put large flower arrangements on cocktail tables, and Glorious Food served a buffet with smoked salmon, filet mignon, shrimp and sushi.
