Gear heads, socialites and auto industry journalists—not your typical cocktail party partners—got a sneak peek at the New York International Auto Show at a preview gala for East Side House Settlement. Held the night before the show opened to the public, the fund-raiser also showed off a display of vintage racing cars from sponsor Grupo Ferrari Maserati.
Planned by Jeffrey Ehoodin, public relations manager for Ferrari Maserati North America, and the folks at the Susan Magrino Agency, the party was an opportunity for Ferrari to stand out during the crowded car show, and make a play for the New York market. "There are so many influential people here," Ehoodin said. And giving them the chance to hear the vintage cars start up—some guests even sat inside them—was an opportunity for Ferrari to rev up its brand image.
Held in the large lobby area at the north end of the giant convention complex, the benefit had a block party feel, with strands of white lights hanging over the event. Tansey Design Associates used large flower arrangements to decorate the buffet tables, where Taste Caterers served a nice assortment of cold crudités and cheeses, plus plenty of hot Asian items like steamed dumplings and chicken satay.
After two and a half hours of checking out the show, cocktails and Ferrari displays, guests who bought $1,000 benefactor tickets headed to a dinner at the north end of the lobby. Tansey used a tent made of white fabric to create a pretty, fairly intimate dining room dotted with red, blue and yellow flower centerpieces.

Lights hanging in the north lobby area of the Javits Center helped bring a block party feel to the Auto Show preview benefit for the East Side House Settlement sponsored by Grupo Ferrari Maserati.

Taste Caterers served an assortment of hors d'oeuvres including colorful crudités.

Bill Tansey decorated Taste's buffet tables with tall arrangements with flowering azalea, laurel and rhododendron.

In the north end of the space, a tent created by suspended white fabric created a spare, pretty dining room accented with red, blue and yellow floral centerpieces by Bill Tansey.
