Biolage Breakfast Goes Au Naturel

At the pre-workday event, beauty editors dined on botanical ingredients amid bright, white flowers.

Many of the beauty editors at the Biolage hair care press breakfast expressed concern over the 8:30 AM start time. “I guzzled tons of black coffee at home,” one Condé Nast ed told us. “I can’t remember the last time I was up this early.” But the sunny milieu and refreshing menu did wonders to perk up the crowd. Suzy Stagl of Matrix (which owns Biolage) planned the early event with Alison Brod Public Relations.
The all-white Matrix Global Academy—the West Village space used for training hairdressers that is also available for rent as an event venue—served as the backdrop for fresh, clean decor: big, round floral arrangements of white orchids, roses, and hydrangeas by James François-Pijuan and sprigs of fresh rosemary atop menus at guests’ table settings.

Savoy chef Peter Hoffman prepared a breakfast tasting menu of six dishes that used the botanical ingredients Biolage uses in its newly revamped product line: citrus salad with Meyer lemon peel, rosemary and manchego frittata, mango lemongrass terrine, ginger date scones, apple tarte tatin, and rice pudding sprinkled with bee pollen. Of course, caterwaiters also circulated with enough coffee to sate the bleary-eyed group.
