The hotel executives gathered for last night's annual Canadian Hotel Marketing and Sales Executives (CHMSE) dinner have attended their share of functions in conference centres and ballrooms across the city. So event organizers chose to work with a decor company for the first time this year in an effort to impress guests.
Leanne Nicholl, director of programs for the CHMSE, collaborated with Jeffry Roick of McNabb Roick Events to transform the Toronto Ballroom at the Hilton Toronto. "It’s one of the best G.M. nights CHMSE has actually put on," Nicholl said prior to the event. “Usually what we do is let the hotel showcase what it offers. This year, having a decor company on board just added to the evening."The event is an appreciation night for hotel managers and sales executives. “To have this special decor makes a difference to them,” Nicholl said, adding that the event was a cinch to pull off. “I had fantastic suppliers, creative and talented people who do what they do very well."
The tables, topped with black-and-white linens, were surrounded by Philippe Starck Louis Ghost chairs. Tall lamps with white shades trimmed in black served as the centrepieces. Four small bouquets of white roses—supplied by San Remo Florist—were nestled inside each lampshade. Three small black vases holding arrangements of white hydrangeas and a series of crystal candleholders completed the tabletops.
“I told him something elegant and fun,” Nicholl said of her discussions with Roick regarding the decor. “He showed me three pictures of centrepieces and I really liked this one. He basically did the rest.” The hotel catered the meal, which included a main course of roasted beef tenderloin, and Jim Clayton Jazz provided the entertainment.
