Word on the Street—the annual book and magazine fair being held September 28 at Queen's Park—is teaming up with Solera Sustainable Energies, East Penn, New Leaf, and Webcom in an effort to reduce the event's ecological footprint his year. Organizers of the 19th annual event are working with Solera and East Penn on a plan to ensure the five performance stages are completely solar powered.
In addition, all of the marketing materials will be cold set printed onto 100 per cent recycled, Ancient Forest Friendly paper—courtesy of New Lear and print sponsor Webcom—and eco cabs will be on hand at Queen's Park to make it easier for attendees to get around the site. Other initiatives include plans to sell reusable polyfibre book bags, using battery-powered golf carts for site management, reusing signage from past years, and redesigning the overall site plan to concentrate power sources.
The free event will feature a marketplace including more than 250 book, magazine, and literary exhibits and is expected to attract 200,000 attendees and more than 170 Canadian authors, poets, storytellers, and performers.
