Through their New York-based design studio Confetti System, Nicholas Andersen and Julie Ho transform tissue paper, cardboard, leather, silk, metallic foil, and other materials into artful installations and “party objects” including garlands and piñatas. While some pieces are small enough to top tables, others are on a grander scale, filling ceilings and store windows. For the American Ballet Theatre’s Innovation Initiative benefit in New York in October, they created treelike centerpieces bedecked with colorful tissue paper pompoms, and a large, shimmering bronze sculpture suspended over the dining area. “All of our work is pretty time-consuming, as we make everything in our studio, cutting every piece of fringe and paying attention to all the small details,” says Ho. “It’s what we love to do. We get obsessed with what we’re making.” Confetti System works throughout the U.S. and Canada. Past clients include Bergdorf Goodman, Partners & Spade, and Pop magazine.
