After briefly closing for a two weeks in May, Helix Lounge in the Hotel Helix is open again after receiving $250,000 in aesthetic tweaks. Gone is the all-white, ’60s-themed decor, and in its place is vibrantly hued ... ’60s-themed decor. Changes to the space include new tables and chairs, a shimmery silver ceiling, and a sparkly terrazzo floor made up of silver, gold, and gray flecks. Lots of buzz is surrounding the new space (see this Washington Post review by Fritz Hahn), and several groups have held events there, including DCStylemag.com’s second-anniversary fete on May 24.

Known for its patio, which reels in a local happy hour crowd in the summer with fresh cocktails, the Kimpton Hotels-owned property is 1,800 square feet combined; it can accommodate 90 people in the lounge and about 35 outside. While there is no private event space (full buyouts are typical), there are several alcoves that can accommodate semiprivate events for as many as 20.
