Last night, Donald Trump and a gaggle of Entertainment Tonight personalities celebrated the opening of Bar Nineteen12, the new lounge at the Beverly Hills Hotel. The hotel was built in 1912, thus the name, and as director of food and beverage Robert Allen explained, "It was just time for an update."
And updated it is. The space—a combination of a former boardroom, a suite, the Sunset Tea Room, and a terrace—has a contemporary feel, with high-back leather chairs, orange velvet couches, and clubby wood paneling. Outside woven rattan chairs, sofas, and tables fill the L-shaped terrace overlooking a garden and the pool. Giant palms surround the perimeter (the hotel has an abundance in its classic pink-and-green decor). There aren't any inside Nineteen12, however; the only palms here are in the subtle design on the wall behind the bar.The drink menu features both traditional cocktails (served in custom-designed barware) and more innovative varieties such as adult versions of Jell-O shots—bite-size gelatin shapes studded with blueberries or topped with baby mint leaves—and martini sorbets and popsicles. For food, there's smoked salmon on toasted brioche, grilled hangar steak and roasted onion quesadillas, and other upscale bar items. Bottle service here is mobile: Bartenders circulate throughout the lounge with a cart full of mixers and liquors to freshen drinks tableside.
The lounge is open daily 5 p.m. to 2 a.m.
