Open since late June, the 5,800-square-foot Shadow Room in Foggy Bottom—located in the basement of an office building—has an edge on nearby hot spots, given the amount of high-tech gear on site. The venue's 25 "Technology Tables" ring the outer edge of the space and come with a flat-screen TV (hooked up to Xboxes and PlayStations), a touch-screen panel, and a phone. Need to call the valet? Place an order on the screen and management will call you when your car is out front. Images and videos can also be displayed in various ways on the TVs surrounding the lounge.
The color-changing LED ceiling lights, Italian ceramic floors, and black leather cube seating add to Shadow Room's lounge vibe. The space can seat 250 or hold as many as 350 for a reception (with full buyouts available), and has two areas that can be sectioned off. The front room boasts a 25-foot ceiling and white leather sofas on a miniature balcony, where a floor-to-ceiling curtain can create privacy for 90. The back space can accomodate 100 people and offers a separate bar and a DJ booth. In two months, a retractable glass wall will offer privacy in the back room as well.
The restrooms aim for spa-style decor, with candles and soft, New Age music. Shadow Room is open from 10 p.m. to 3 a.m. on Friday and Saturday, but offers flexibility for private rentals.
