Guests at the Studio Museum in Harlem's benefit gala at the Metropolitan Pavilion were treated to some good food, beautiful decor, and a surprise performance by famed trumpeter and artistic director of Jazz at Lincoln Center Wynton Marsalis. Other notable guests included Russell and Kimora Lee Simmons, Spike and Tonya Lee, Ed Bradley, David Dinkins, Bryant Gumbel, Veronica Webb and the evening's honoree, photographer Gordon Parks.
Produced by MF Productions, the event featured a gorgeous green decor scheme by Saundra Parks of Daily Blossom. Stortz Lighting lit the room in pale green lights, and tall cocktail tables and the bar were covered with matching green table linens. In the dining room, large cymbidium orchid centerpieces were displayed on tall pedestals. Matching green tablecloths and napkins covered the tables.
Tentation served an appetizing array of hors d'oeuvres, including mini spring rolls with tamarind sauce and seven-spice lamb fillets with sweet fig syrup on mini pitas. For dinner, a pastry dough "Purse of Saint Maure" with goat cheese and mesclun greens first course was followed by a filet of beef with wild mushroom and shallot sauce entree. Dessert was pumpkin creme brulee.
