#1 Fashion Industry Event
Though fashion-industry insiders continue to question of the need for, or relevance of, the large-scale event with fashion shows and related events happening all around town, its popularity rages on. Presented by IMG, the shows included offerings from Christian Siriano, Prabal Gurung, Anna Sui, Creatures of the Wind, and more at Skylight Clarkson Square. Other designers organized their own events, most notably Ralph Lauren’s show set in his garage of classic cars in Bedford Hills, New York. Next: February 2018

#2 Fashion Industry Event
Famously held the first Monday in May, the museum’s benefit draws fashion designers, supermodels, and a host of celebrities and socialites who arrive in eye-popping fashions tied to the evening’s theme. Overseen by Vogue editor in chief Anna Wintour and this year co-chaired by singer Katy Perry, the evening celebrated the opening of the exhibition “Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garçons: Art of the In-Between.” Turning heads this year were Rihanna, Tracee Ellis Ross, and former U.S. Ambassador to Japan and honorary chairwoman Caroline Kennedy, who all wore designs by Kawakubo. #3 Fashion Industry Event
Comprised of more than 500 members, the C.F.D.A. issues awards annually to those who’ve made an outstanding contribution to American design, whether through womenswear, menswear, jewelry, journalism, or some other means. Held in partnership with Swarovski in the Manhattan Center’s Hammerstein Ballroom for the 16th year, the 2017 ceremony saw the Menswear and Womenswear awards both go to Raf Simons for Calvin Klein. Honorees included Kenneth Cole, Janelle Monae, and Gloria Steinem, among others. An official after-party was held at Samsung 837. Next: June 2018
