* INCOMING *
1. M.L.K. EVENTS BEGIN: From BizBash news editor Courtney Thompson: The first official gala of the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial dedication week takes place tonight at the National Building Building Museum, with tapped vendors including Hargrove, Showcall, Andre Wells, Amaryllis, DC Rental, Perfect Settings, CES Security, and Susan Davis International. The "Honoring Global Leaders for Peace International Salute" gala will draw both invited and ticketed guests.
GEP is handling logistics, and according to president Marty MacKay, "While we'd be remiss to not take care of the corporate sponsors that are in many cases writing out big checks, we had to remember that this is a memorial for the people. As much as possible, there has been a desire to make sure that there is access to the public for all of the official events this week."
Six of the week's events are taking place at the convention center, and IEP a PRG Company is providing all lighting, sound, and video. The company has five semi-trucks of lighting gear for Saturday's Celebration Dream gala. "The event has two separate stages, so the room plays in two different directions," said Mark D'Alessandro of IEP. "The lighting systems had to play nice together, and fit the styles of both mini-events—an awards show and concert."
