1. DON MISCHER BRINGS HOLLYWOOD TO CHINESE AWARD SHOW: Super producer Don Mischer—with three Academy Award shows, two Olympics opening ceremonies, multiple Super Bowl halftime shows, and 2009’s Obama Inaugural Celebration at the Lincoln Memorial among his credits—is taking on a new role overseeing China's Huading Awards in Macau. Wall Street Journal: "Mr. Mischer said he also expects to team up with Global Talents Media to bring the awards to Los Angeles in May next year. 2. VEUVE CLICQUOT MAKES ECO-FRIENDLY MOVE: Famous orange-label champagne brand Veuve Clicquot is going green, debuting new biodegradable, isothermal packaging. Huffington Post: "The new, space-age-motif is made of eco-friendly potato starch and is isothermal, meaning it can keep your bottle of Veuve cold for up to two hours outside a fridge. 3. ZAGAT PLANS MAJOR EXPANSION: Zagat, the guides to dining, shopping, nightlife, and more, is planning a major expansion of the cities that it covers. Now owned by Google, the service also just launched a new Web site and mobile apps. TechCrunch: "Currently, the new Zagat covers restaurants and nightlife in nine cities, but Google says it plans to expand this list to over 50 U.S. and international destinations. Today, the site only covers San Francisco, Austin, Boston, Chicago, London, Los Angeles, New York City, Philadelphia, and Washington, D.C. Google also plans to expand the range of reviews to include hotels, shopping, and 'other places of interest,' something the printed Zagat guides have been doing for a while now." http://tcrn.ch/1c9MHVj

BALTIMORE:  Caesars Entertainment, along with Rock Gaming and CBAC Gaming L.L.C., broke ground on the $400 million Horseshoe Baltimore. The property will offer a casino, three restaurants, several bars and restaurants, 7,670 square feet of function space, and 4,615 square feet of pre-function space. The venue will seat 500 guests for a reception or banquet and 800 for a standing event. The expected completion date is late 2014.

BOSTON:  Are pop-up picnics the new "thing" in the underground dining scene? On Wednesday, the Blue Room and Bon Me will present a four-course feast prepared in Bon Me's food truck at Rings Fountain on the Rose F. Kennedy Greenway. Guests will lounge on blankets and sample menu items such as chilled cucumber soup shooters.

Strega Prime will open Sunday in the former Beacon Grille Space in Woburn. The space has 352 seats and will serve steaks and chops with Italian-inspired side dishes.

CHICAGO:  The Renaissance Blackstone Chicago Hotel offers a thematic "All Things Gangster" meeting. The package includes staffers dressed in 1920s attire, hot shaves and manicure in the room that once served as a barbershop for Al Capone, and an Untouchables bus tour.

Singer Roberta Flack will headline the Black Ensemble Theater's gala at the Hilton Chicago October 18.

LAS VEGAS:  Las Vegas Review-Journal: "In the same building where Barbra Streisand, Dean Martin, and Elvis Presley performed over 50 years ago, more than 600 people from 37 countries came to show off their Rubik’s Cube talents Saturday.
