Fashion Photos Fill Le Book Fete

Le Book, the directory for photo shoots, toasted itself with a 25th anniversary party decorated with projections of fashion and celebrity snapshots.

June 22, 2005
The whitewashed walls of Skylight were transformed into the pages of Le Book and i-D magazine at Le Book's 25th anniversary party. Using a mix of video and stills, PanOptic projected 500 crisp, vibrant images featuring the photography of Mario Sorrenti, Steven Meisel, Ellen von Unwerth, and others onto the walls. The International Festival of Fashion Photography's Hady Sy curated the montage of images for the photo shoot directory’s party.
Le Book international director of development Michael Kazam, who coordinated the event with production firm OBO, was thrilled with PanOptic's work. "They found an innovative and interesting way to present the images [while] maintaining the integrity of the images," he said. Drapery covered Skylight's windows and glass doors for a darker, more projection-friendly environment, and JKLD saturated the space with red light and textured gobos in front of the stage.

Serena Bass catered, and added stylish touches like branches strung with transparent beads and neon Lucite disks to the black trays of crabcakes, spicy vegetable spring rolls, and tandoori chicken. Bloom's colorful, unusual floral arrangements with roses, calla lilies, and orchids in large glass vases decorated the bars.

I-D magazine—which also marked its 25th anniversary with this event—and Land Rover cosponsored the party. The car company chose the to unveil its new Range Rover Sport model at the event; the car's curves, one guest learned, are not supportive of martini glasses. Although the pairing may not have seemed the obvious choice for the jet-setting crowd, Kazam said Le Book approached Land Rover after another event. "They are a luxury vehicle, but tough. A lot of photographers and designers use them. They can handle photo shoots in the mountains or the desert."

Despite intermittently rainy weather, the space was packed for the first of three parties planned to celebrate the anniversary. Events in Paris and London will take place later this year.
